If you want it all, it’s enough if you do without everything else
The name may be a little misleading – Null Stern Hotel means “Zero Star Hotel”. Yet this accommodation high in the Safien valley (Canton of Graubünden) probably offers a view of more stars at night than any other hotel room on Earth.
After all, the heavens are considerably closer when you sleep at 1,700 metres above sea level. This hotel room has neither walls nor a ceiling – nothing but awe-inspiring natural surroundings.Visitors’ senses are treated to the sounds, smells, colours and light of the mountains from the comfort of their bed. Up close – and therefore miles from everything else.
The Swiss conceptual artists Frank and Patrik Riklin from the Atelier für Sonderaufgaben joined forces with Daniel Charbonnier to create the Null Stern Hotel: “While hotels have always focused on maximising their star ratings and level of luxury, this hotel approaches things from precisely the opposite direction: The number zero embodies freedom and independence – redefining the concept of luxury.”
